The first time I set foot in a gym in 2009, I had a panic attack and left before I even got on a treadmill. My anxiety and depression had worsened over the last year, and I was tired of being told to just keep taking pills. I was determined to start exercising to take back my health, and my life. At first I could only stay for ten minutes before feeling overwhelmed and leaving, but I kept going back and was soon reaping the benefits.
With a new zest for life and a fresh perspective on health, a year later I was working at that same gym, and four years after that, I was coaching my own clients to overcome their hesitations and reach their fitness goals.
In addition to my personal trainer and fitness nutrition coach certifications, I went on to earn my bachelor's in psychology, with a minor in kinesiology, emphasizing health and wellness. I worked my way up through the ranks in the gym, from front desk attendant to personal trainer, master trainer, and fitness manager, helping hundreds of individuals improve their health and wellness along the way.
Meanwhile, my own fitness journey has been far from perfect. I have struggled with obsessing about my diet, being overly critical of myself, and sometimes struggle to find the time to exercise as much as I want to.
But over the years, I have learned that being healthy isn't about perfection because life doesn't stop so you can suddenly get fit- there's no perfect time to start other than right now. The key is to slowly start weaving healthy habits into your lifestyle, making minor changes that have a huge payoff. In no time at all, you will see and feel the health benefits as they enhance your life.
With my own fitness as well as my clients' programs, I incorporate several aspects of lifestyle to ensure sustainability. Physical activity, nutrition, sleep, stress management, and relationships are all vital components in achieving and maintaining health, but each individual’s approach must be unique to them.
I started Wholistic Health and Fitness after working as a coach in the gym setting for five years and feeling frustrated that I could not offer my clients more in terms of accessibility, convenience, affordability, and comprehensiveness. And now I can!
Through my programs, I am able to curate the appropriate plan for each person to get from their current state of health to their fitness goals, incorporating their lifestyle, schedule, and preferences, and providing support along the way. You don't even need a gym membership!
I emphasize a whole food, plant-based diet (you don’t have to be a vegan to benefit from this!) that will nourish your body and mind from the inside out (see my blog for more about this) and regular physical activity to make you strong and lean and give you the functionality to live your life optimally.
My ultimate goal is to teach and empower you to live a healthful lifestyle so that you can live the life you want and deserve. And because I do not use a one size fits all approach, you will find that I offer several unique services and packages, both online and in person, to meet your needs.
